While it's charging if you touch the metal body it gives you a small electric charge (it's not faulty, google it, apple said it's 'normal' and it happens to a lot of people). It gets uncomfortably HOT and loud, even without the vm running. The ssd is the slowest SSD I've ever used, made me doubt it wasn't a hdd. It's designed to keep everything open in the ram.

I run a windows 10 vm but even without it it's slow. Everything else kinda sucks considering how much it costs. The screen, keyboard feel and touchpad are amazing. Yes mine is a late 2020 work issued macbook pro.

M1s benefits (battery life abd performance) dissapear when you try to emulate x86 so if all they're going to do is run vms they should get something with a 64 bit cpu as an hypervisor. I have the latest model of MacBook pro that came out with Intel i5 and my windows 10 vm on it runs like trash way too often, can't imagine how bad it would be if it was an M1 running x86 Windows 10. Might have improved with windows 11, but if you're emulating x86 it's never going to be as quick and easy as the real thing. With windows for arm I can't vouch for it as the last time I tried it was windows 10 on an arm based surface, and installing a simple vpn client was impossible. Again, most dependencies will work fine, but it just takes one that's not arm compatible to ruin your day.

I agree in Linux it's not as bad, but after fighting with my Raspberry pi trying to install stuff not designed for arm I can't recommend it, it's a waste of time and the solution is to run a x86 linux on a regular cpu.
